When Do You Need Credit Cards and How Many?

July 4, 2010 | Author: Admin | Filed under: Uncategorized

Today we are all aware of the importance of credit cards and yet they are misunderstood way to much.  Don’t just take out credit cards and end up messing up your credit history.  You don’t want to end up in a situation where bad credit personal loans are your only option.

Keep in mind that credit cards are a great tool to keep our credit history in good standing, but they are also bad if we don’t manage them correctly.  We will end up having to apply for bad credit loans to get us out of the hole we can dig ourselves into when we mistreat our credit cards.

When do you need to apply for a credit card?

Ideally you should get a credit card when the occasion arises that you need one.  Watch out for higher interest rates and other account associated fees.  Always compare what the credit cards are offering you and choose the right plan for your personal financial situation.

Keep one card and work from that one.  Do not get multiple cards to do one project, like home repairs for example.  Fix what you want to using one credit card, pay off the balance on time and then do more repairs and start the process over again.  This helps to build your credit and also keep you in good credit standing while not putting yourself in bad financial situation.

When you apply for more than one card and use it and then decide you want another card, either just to transfer the balance or use it for another project, it can end up costing you more in the long run.  For example, if you make a balance transfer with all intensions of paying the remainder of the balance that would not go on the new card, but good intensions sometimes don’t happen.  Those unpaid balances can add up and rack up interest and other fees that you don’t need.
