What is the Best Free Blog Site?

Everyone loves getting something for free, and bloggers are no exception.  If you just want to dip your toe into the blogging world, without fronting any of your own money, then the best way to go about doing that is by finding a site that hosts free blogs.  There are actually quite a few sites that do this, but the two largest are WordPress.com and Blogger.com, but which is the best blog site?

Blogger.com is owned and operated by Google.  It’s been debated as to whether orn ot this has a positive or negative impact. Some feel that it allows Google to keep to close of an eye on your activities; kind of like having your college dorm next door to your parent’s house.  This is only really a problem if you engage in shady activities that Google frowns on.  Even then they will only really step in when they’ve deemed your blog as complete spam; this could get your blog deleted.  Don’t spam, and you’re okay.  The positive effect that people claim is that you will get indexed faster and crawled more frequently using Google’s Blogger.com.  This is not really true.  Google treats it’s own blogging network the same as it treats other blogs; they give it no special treatment.

Next, you have WordPress.com.  Wordpress is arguably the most prominently used blogging software, as it is the choice of most self-hosted bloggers.  Many people use their free blogging service as well, and there are few complaints.  Wordpress is considered the more user-friendly of the two different free blogging platforms, and is also a bit more customizable than Blogger’s options.  They’ve also recently released WordPress 3.0, which is supposed to be the next big step in blogging software.  This newest release makes your WordPress.com blog even more user-friendly and customizable than it was before, and it was already ahead of Blogger.  Now it’s way ahead.

Every uber blogger will agree that the clear winner between the two big free blog hosting sites is WordPress.com  Blogger.com makes a fine show, and some people really like it but that’s a matter of their personal taste.  As far as free blog sites go, WordPress.com can’t be beat.
