When flip flops were first introduced into the market in the 1970s, it was designed as a purely functional footwear for use inside the house or at least to the beach or pool. Made of flat rubber soles held together by a V-shaped strap, it was a very simple design no one ever dreamed for it to be more than just a pair of soft and comfortable slippers.
