Vicodin Addiction Treatment

Although vicodin is an excellent pain medication when used properly, many people suffer from an addiction to vicodin without even realizing it. Vicodin is an opioid drug that is prescribed by doctors to treat medium to severe pain. While this drug is effective, it is only supposed to be used on a short term basis because of its addictive properties. What some patients find is that even after the prescription is used up, they are on the hunt to find more of the drug.

One of the greatest obstacles with vicodin addiction is that because patients are written a prescription for a legitimate reason, they feel that being addicted to it is out of the question. One of the most common signs of a vicodin addiction is continued use of the drug. Patients will attempt to get the drug illegally if they cannot get another prescription from the doctor. Behavior and mood changes occur, such as being hostile, overanxious or agitated.

Other symptoms of addiction include physical changes, such as difficulty sleeping at night, joint and muscle aches, and night sweats. Just like any other drug, more of the vicodin is needed to have the same effects. When purchased illegally and in large quantities, vicodin is expensive, which means that users will use their money to buy vicodin and struggle to pay their bills. Users are often in denial and will begin to withdrawal from society and have difficulty coping with everyday situations.

Fortunately, there is help one can has the option to go to vicodin addiction treatment. Recovery programs are available to offer support and guidance for those who are addicted to pain medications. These support groups focus on specific addictions in order to meet the individual needs of the addicts. To combat any addiction however, one must come to terms with their dependence on the drug. Voluntary withdrawal is more likely to happen if the user recognizes the addiction and has a strong support network.
