Using Alphabet Beads And Letter Beads

Looking for easy summer projects?  Have you ever tried projects working with alphabet beads?  These versatile and classy beads are not only great fun to work with, but they can also be made into beautiful pieces of jewelry that can either be worn yourself or given as gifts.   I know you have seen them, they are the  square beads with a letter on the face of four sides and a hole down through the middle.

Alphabet beads are also called “letter beads”.   Often the terms are used interchangeably, so don’t be confused by the terminology.   However, “letter initials” are an entirely different item, so make sure the word bead is added to the end of the word when ordering or talking about your project.

What can you do with alphabet beads?  Glad you asked?  Just about anything.  You can spell your name, a child’s name, a parents name, a club name, a team name, a church name, a pets name, or a school name. While these are the common uses for letter beads, you can actually spell out anything that strikes your fancy; you’re limited only by your imagination.

They are great for beginning spellers, those who know how to spell and also for those who just want to get their point across long after they have learned how to spell.

The most popular application for letter beads are bracelets.  The young, the old and every age in between love these bracelets.  They really do appeal to all age groups.

There are plastic alphabet beads, pewter alphabet beads and sterling silver alphabet beads.  They come in various sizes, usually ranging from 4.5 mm to 6 mm. The hole size is something that is important.  The hole size ranges anywhere from 2mm to 4mm.

The hole size is important because you want to make sure whatever you have selected to string the beads on isn’t too thick for the beads.  Usually people use beading wire, leather, or some other kind of  cording.

What do you put on the bracelets besides your name?  This is where your individuality comes in and where the fun begins.  This is your opportunity to customize it to suit your personality. You can either stop with just your name or you can add a myriad of colorful beads or Swarovski crystals to jazz your up bracelet to reflect your special uniqueness.
