The Worst Date Ever
This is a short article that tells the story of my worst date ever. While it is meant to be entertaining, it is also supposed to be somewhat educational. Hopefully you never make the same mistakes that I did. So read this and enjoy, but also learn from it and hopefully you can avoid ultimate dating disaster.
This strange tale starts a year ago when I signed up for an online dating site. I saw the many commercials for this site on TV and I had also heard some testimonials from friends so I decided to give it a try. I signed up, gave them my credit card number and began creating my first profile. I wasn’t sure how to fill out all the information because as you may know it is very challenging to adequately describe yourself. Should I describe myself for accuracy or should I be marketing myself for a potential lover? I finally decided to mix the two and came up with a simple profile that I thought would easily attract the ladies.
Then my next problem was which picture to use in my profile. I decided to go against using a picture, hoping that my charm alone would shine though in the profile. This was a huge mistake as you will find out later in the story. Most dating sites will tell you to use a picture and it dramatically raises your chances of getting success. Humans are visual creatures afterall and it’s nice to be able to see what we’re dealing with when it comes to dating.
So I set up my profile and waited for the initial responses to come in. To my surprise I met a very nice lady right away. She didn’t have a picture either but we got along right away through our short correspondence that consisted of simple messages back and forth. It was actually quite pleasant and our messages got longer and my courage finally built to a point where I asked her out for a date. I was tempted to talk on the phone first, but decided against it in the end. I wanted the full experience, the surprise of possibly finding my soulmate!
Well my bubble was really burst when I finally met my date. She wasn’t ugly, nor was she unpleasant. The problem was that she was my cousin! Somehow, lost in the waves of technology and the internet I had managed to hook myself up with my own cousin. We had a good laugh about it, but it was the most embarrassing experience of my life for sure. If you learn anything from this short article, let it be this…online dating can be a great way to avoid the whole bar scene of bad pickup lines, but always be careful and mindful. Dating on the net is a mix of hiding the right information but being really clear in other areas. Be smart and be discerning, you’ll have a lot more fun and hopefully never end up like me.
