The Valuable Six Sigma Education

A Six Sigma education is valued by many employers because it teaches business management strategy that is meant to cut costs, lower defects, and improve employee performance. The principles learned from this type of training can be applied to any industry that incorporates employee management at any level. Whether applied by a stock person in charge of one other employee or by a CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation, the results are generally the same. This training program was designed by the Motorola Company in the early 1980s and has grown to become an accepted form of management training worldwide.

The training program is focused on identifying defects in the work process and creating alternative methods of work that is meant to increase production while decreasing wasted resources. One strategy could be as simple as moving a work station closer to a supply shelf to avoid the constant need for employees to walk to and from their desks all day. This strategy not only cuts down on time spent walking to and from the shelf but also cuts down the possibility for the employee to get distracted on his or her trip to the shelf. This training program teaches students how to recognize such deficiencies, how to analyze the cost of such deficiencies, and how to incorporate repairs to deficiencies. The above is just one example of many that could be offered.

Personnel who earn a lean Six Sigma education may be employed as full time employees of a company and given the responsibility of putting their training to use by cutting costs or they may be hired as independent consultants who are hired on a contract basis to lower costs. Independent consultants usually charge their clients a percentage of any overall savings based on various calculations and applied analysis.
