The Change Taking Place In Our Work Force

June 8, 2010 | Author: Admin | Filed under: Uncategorized

Life is all about work and play.  The two don’t necessarily have to be separate from one another.   These two factors can blend together nicely and you’re life is blessed when this happens.  What we all fail to realize at some point in our lives is that we were never taught that these two forces can, and should, blend together to create the life we all desire.

What Mom and Dad Forgot to Teach Us

Most of us never learned to assume that working for a living should be an enjoyable pursuit.  We were taught that working is a part of life.  Everyone must endure it to provide for themselves and their families.  In defense of our elders that taught us this approach, they didn’t know any different.  They grew up under the tutelage that you get a job, you stick with it your entire life, and after 50+ years you get to retire.  The end…or so it seemed.

What We’re Teaching Our Parents

A wave is gaining momentum throughout the world that is changing the work environment.  People have begun to assume that they should spend their lives working at tasks they enjoy.  Tasks that bring meaning to their lives and challenge their creativity.  We’re beginning to understand the importance of happiness and it has nothing to do with a paycheck.  We’re learning to live happily with less and agreeing to place our priorities elsewhere.  The over-indulging era seems to be slipping into history.

We’ve Had It All And We’re Giving It Back

Many of us are quitting our high status jobs in pursuit of our dreams.  We want to be happy, not tied to an exorbitant mortgage or a car payment that would have paid for our parent’s home 40 years ago.  And we’re not afraid!  We’re happy with less.   Yes, we thought we wanted it all but we’ve changed our minds.  Pinning our dreams on our retirement isn’t going to work for us.  We don’t want to wait to be happy.  We’ve decided we can do it today.

If you feel like this speaks to you, don’t be afraid to join the masses on their way out the office door.  Create the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.  Downsize your life and get on with your dreams.  Fear isn’t a good enough excuse to regret your choices 10-20+ years from now.  Take the action NOW that you’ll wish you had taken in the future.  Jump out there and make it happen!
