Survival Backpack – An Emergency Preparedness Is Essential

We are all susceptible to one type of disaster or another. Earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, blizzards, mudslides and the list goes on. FEMA has several recommendations for you to be properly prepared to survive these events.

First you need to have a emergency fund. Having money on hand that allows you to relocate and avaoid a disaster altogether is crucial. Thousands of people decided they would ride out hurricane Katrina simply because they did not have funds available to do anything else. Save money for an emergency, and use it only for bonafide emergencies.

Have a plan and communicate it to your family. Talk to your kids about what to do in the event of a fire, flood, hurricane, earthquake or whatever other natural disasters may occur in your geographic area. A disaster causes extreme stress and confusion, if you have discussed a plan with your kids, and they understand it, during these times of extreme stress, their minds will retrieve this information, latch on to it and execute it. Make sure they are mentally prepared.

Having a survival backpack or emergency backpack is invaluable.  These are ready made kits, designed by emergency response experts, that contain all the items you would likely need to survive for 72 hours after a disaster.  FEMA and other emergency response agencies recommend that you should be able to sustain yourself for at least 72 hours.  After severe disasters, it may take that long before a first responder can get you you or your family and provide aid.  I personally prefer the survival backpacks and emergency backpacks because they are easy to grab up and if everyone in your family is wearing one, then even if one of you gets separated because of a storm or flood, they will still have their survival equipment with them.

These emergency backpacks are surprisingly affordable.  Purchasing all the neccessary items separately can add up, but by getting prepacked surivival backpacks, you can defray the cost.  I strongly recommend that every member of your family have a survival backpack or 72 hour survival kit.
