Stubborn Blackheads? What Type of Blackhead Remover Is Best?
So you have a blackhead sitting somewhere on your face, chest or back, and you want to know how to treat it. They aren’t pleasant, and you REALLY want to pop it, but you know that if you try to remove a Blackhead THAT big without the proper tools and instruction, it is going leave a nice little reminder that it was there i.e. a scar! Blackheads form when you a the oild on your skin (Sebum) clogs up in a pore, and becomes hard. Removal of blackheads can often require more than a simple squeeze. So what options do you have open to you?
Only blackheads that have reached the outer layer of the skin can be extracted in the correct fashion with a blackhead remover. If you try to get rid of a blackhead prior to this, you’ll a) probably fail b) just irritate your skin further and c) toxins may mix with the sebum of a blackhead if it is removed prior to it reaching the surface, they can mix together and further infect the area around the original blackhead.
The first thing you have to do is to clean the area around the blackhead well, then steam a cloth and apply it. This is to loosen up a blocked pore (hot oil is easier to get out, just try washing a couple of pots and you’ll discover this). Try to squeeze the blackhead delicately – remember, you don’t want a big hole in the skin, so be patient and gently do it slowly.
If this still does not work (in the case of really stubborn and severe blackheads) a blackhead removal tool may work. All hopefully will come with instructions so I won’t give you a step by step guide here, but the best, ranked in order of usefulness, effectiveness and propensity to scar are:
- a blackhead removal gun: this vaccums the oil skin and toxins out of the pore
- blackhead removal strips: Similar to waxing, you wet, apply and remove, and they take the blockage with them
- an extractor – these vary from single and double loops, lancets, and spoons. Basically these are all used to pop a blackhead safely.
