Spending Less on Car Insurance

February 4, 2010 | Author: Admin | Filed under: Uncategorized

You have probably seen some of the many car insurance commercials on TV or ads online or other places.  In fact, you have probably been drowned by them with the rest of us.  The truth of the matter is that we all want to save money and insurance companies know it.  Advertising low rates is what they strive for.  You should get the most affordable car insurance possible without sacrificing quality.

There is a reason you buy insurance, and it’s not because you’re just supposed to.  Insurance is meant to back you up in case of the unexpected.  Unplanned for expenses may happen and you need to have a way to pay for them.  In the case of car insurance, if you get into an accident, it will cost you damages and sometimes legal fees.  Insurance will pay this for you.

To spend less, start by shopping around.  Don’t choose the first company you look at right from the start.  Look around at a variety of different companies.  Look for something that boasts low fees alongside good coverage.  Many good companies will also offer discounts for things such as taking a safety drivers course or getting good grades.  If you are looking for young driver car insurance, you can hopefully get this discount if you are still in school.

To save more money, take your time setting your deductible.  The higher your deductible is, the lower your premiums will be.  Of course, there’s no point in setting a higher deductible if you can’t afford it.  A great idea is to put the maximum value of your deductible into a high interest savings account.  If you do get into an accident, you have the deductible prepared all while paying a low monthly premium.  If you never get in an accident, you have money sitting in the bank collecting interest.

If you are a smart consumer, you can find good insurance for a low price, and research ways to decrease the cost for you.  Take your time in the process.  If you already have car insurance and you think you’re paying too much, you might want to consider changing your insurance company.  Finally, drive safely and avoid accidents and traffic violations and your rates will go down in time.
