Squeezing the bar as hard as you possibly can recruits more muscle fibers during the lift increasing the power you can generate. Improving your grip strength will make it easier for you to lift heavier weight.  There are a few different ways of improving your grip strength but you must be aware it is not muscle strength. It is tendons and ligament strength primarily. One of the key aspects of the wrist roller is the avoidance of over training the forearms. As you improve your grip and wrist strength you will be able to hold heavier weight.

If you are not able to lockout completely you are not finishing the entire lift and not totally developing the muscle. The simple technique of holding the weight at lockout improves your strength and forces your body to involve more muscle fibers. Practice holding and maintaining the lockout position.

Taking your bench press to the next level requires proper training and constantly improving and perfecting technique. Do not over train and always be safe. Injury will only stunt your progress. If you are looking to take your training to the next level consider getting an olympic weight bench that will allow you to fully train the different areas of the chest.
