Rash and Sore Throat – Do They Occur Together?

Having a severe case of sore throat can be very uncomfortable. Sometimes it is called strep throat because of the bacteria known as streptococci have infected the pharynx, causing it to be swollen. Some of the other known symptoms of having this are pain within the throat and a slight burning sensation when you swallow.

If not treated immediately, the condition of the patient may worsen. On severe cases, a person that has sore throat may experience fever, coughs, colds and even rashes. When rashes begin to appear on the skin, many people wonder: rash and sore throat – do they occur together?

Medical studies have shown that a sore throat does not necessarily coincide with having rashes. However, on some cases, rash may appear on the skin of a patient experiencing swollen tonsils and infected throat. According to those in the medical field, a rash may appear on the patient after 12 to 48 hours of experiencing the symptoms of a sore throat. The rashes that usually appear look like bad sunburn with little red bumps. This may begin to appear on the chest area, and soon spread out along the underarm, legs and even neck. It can develop into another form of rash which is a bit sweaty in nature and this would cause the rash to be itchy.

On some cases, the individual not only experiences pain but may also have the flu. High temperature is to be expected and the rash may continue to spread and stay on the skin for seven to 10 days. Along this time, you may want to consult the doctor to make sure of what treatment you need to have. If this is indeed a rash caused by your strep throat, you may need to take in antibiotics that are prescribed by your doctor. If you have fever and coughs, you will be advised to rest and drink lots of water.

Rashes are most common in children and younger teenagers with ages between 5 to 15. Although having these rashes may not be contagious, having sore throat is, so it is advisable that you keep the person quarantined and seek treatment for that person right away.
