Post Pregnancy Necessities

If you are expecting your first baby, then you are probably already preparing a nursery and getting your car seat.  But don’t forget about yourself as well.

There are a few things that every new mother should have.  The first is strictly practical – hemorrhoid relief products.  In fact, this is something that you should ideally get even before you have your baby.  Most pregnant women and new mothers struggle with hemorrhoids because of the increased pressure on your pelvic area from the baby.   The good news is that a little hemorrhoid cream can go a long, long way to making you feel more comfortable.

Another great thing for comfort is icing the area in question.  Ice really does work wonders and can often be all you need to get relief.  Remember, you are not alone!

The second thing to remember to get for yourself when you are having a baby is a good quality nursing bra.  These make nursing your baby much easier, and they look better then they ever have before.   Nursing bras now come in a large variety of styles, and many women really like the popular nursing tanks.

A good nursing bra will have a flap that allows you to be discreet and still nurse your baby.  I would recommend that you buy 2 or 3 before the baby arrives and then several more after your milk comes in.  This will give you the best of both worlds… being prepared AND getting a good fit.

Finally, when you are having a baby, be sure to take some time to yourself.  After your baby is born, it is easy to get sleep deprived and to feel like a zombie.  This is completely normal.  Be sure to call in some help when your baby arrives.  That way you can take a nap, get a pedicure, or just take a few minutes to yourself.   Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
