Mouse Exterminators: Traps

April 21, 2010 | Author: Admin | Filed under: Uncategorized

Most people think of mouse traps with the steel bar and the spring that snaps  and kills the mouse instantly when they think of getting rid of mice.  The trap has a tasty bit of food on it which is to attract mice, allowing it to be trapped and killed.  Sometimes it does not work, as the rodent gets away, or the trap does not spring properly.

But for those that want something a bit more humane in regards to mice extermination, they can get a live trap to use with their mice.  This allows them to  trap the mice and then release it unharmed back into nature.  Keep in mind that it has to be released quite a distance away from your home, or it could come back.  A mouse has a territory more than 200 yards, so keep this in mind when determining where to release it.

A glue trap is considered the least humane way of killing a mouse as it does not die right away. Mice can survive for days or weeks before starving to death.  If the rodent is found alive, the trapper must kill the rodent before disposal of its body.

Another method of mice extermination is using poison.  This works by thinning the blood so it bleeds to death.  The mouse will wander off once it eats the poison to die.  One of the problems with this method is that if pets or children ingest the poison, it can kill them as well.

Some mouse exterminators prefer to use an electronic trap which gives the mice an electric shock which causes death instantly.  The mouse steps on the trap which then sends a shock into the body and it stops the heart instantly.  These traps can be a more expensive and they run on batteries, which will add to the cost.

There is another method called sonic pest control.  It works by putting out a high frequency sound which is to prevent mice from entering a home.  These have not been proven to work completely as of yet.

There are many methods that mouse exterminators can use to get rid of their pests.  A lot depends on wanting something humane, or something that will kill the animal right away.   Regardless of the method, traps have to be checked on a regular basis so you can deal with anything you catch before it starts to cause other issues.
