Methods of Preparation Used In Tree Transplantation
Tree transplantation is the process of removing a living tree from one area and moving that tree to another area. The idea behind the process is to try and move the tree with as little adverse effect on the tree as possible. In order to do this, certain procedures have to be followed.
The only reason that trees would be transplanted in Irish forestry is to establish a new site, or to replace plants on a young site. The preparation of the land to take the tree involves trying to remove as much of the undergrowth as possible. Most sites that will go into forestry in Ireland will have more than just grass growing on them. This land could have brambles growing on it, or many other types of thick vegetation. This has to be removed, cut back, or severely retarded before the trees can be planted. The reason for this is quite simple; you are trying to give the transplanted trees a better chance of survival.
There are several different factors that have to be taken into account when transplanting trees, and we will take these into account regardless of whether the tree is going to be planted as part of a commercial forest, or if the tree is going to be put into a landscape design. One of the most important factors is the time of year that you choose for transplanting the tree. The winter months of November to March are probably the best time to undertake any tree transplanting operations. This is because the previous season’s growth will have ceased and the subsequent season’s growth will not yet have commenced. Also, you shouldn’t try to transplant a tree during frosty weather, during very cold and dry weather, or during weather conditions that would prove unsuitable for any planting.
