Maternity Clothing – What do you Really Need to Buy?
Pregnancy can be an amazing time and most women love to watch their body’s changing shape as their bump grows to show the world that you’re carrying a baby. However it can be frustrating when you start to outgrow your regular clothes and getting a whole new wardrobe which will be used for just a few months is most likely an expensive exercise. So what items do you really need to buy and what can you do without?
In the early days of your pregnancy your regular clothes will still fit or you may just have to go up a size. You can easily minimize the cost of this by borrowing from friends and family or buying things on sale or from second hand shops or auction sites like eBay. You can get some additional wear out of your clothes by using bump bands to expand the waist band on skirts and trousers. If you choose outfits consisting of loose dresses and stretchy pants, these will fit you for longer than fitted items with little stretch.
Once you’re well into the second trimester you’re likely to start needing some larger items. Some well fitting maternity swimwear is essential if you’ll be swimming as part of your exercise regime. Also be sure to wear a properly fitted bra that is suitable for use in pregnancy.
Empire line tops work great in pregnancy and can also be worn after the baby is born. You can cut down on buying maternity trousers by wearing yoga and workout pants, as these will stretch and fit under your bump when you’re bigger. For smart work clothing and going out clothes, you’ll probably have to buy proper maternity versions but you can keep the cost low by buying a few basic items and accessorizing them in different ways.
To see you through your pregnancy you’ll probably need at least 2 pairs of stretchy pants, several loose tops, a nice empire line dress for going out, a couple of maternity bras and a maternity swim suit.
