Leonard Nimoy Heading Home To Vulcan

April 22, 2010 | Author: Admin | Filed under: Uncategorized

Everyone’s favorite Vulcan, Leonard Nimoy, is hanging up his Spock ears and going into retirement but before he does, he’s got one last visit to pay – to the town of Vulcan, Alberta.

The 79 year-old Nimoy will always be remembered for playing Mr. Spock as part of the crew of the Starship Enterprise on Star Trek. But Nimoy is a man of many talents and besides acting on TV and in film he also took the director’s chair for two movies in the “Star Trek” series; “Star Trek III – The Search For Spock” and “Star Trek IV – The Voyage Home”.

In recent years he has toured the Star Trek convention circuit and also guest starred on TV’s “Fringe”. But after he finishes a few more public appearances he plans to retire from show business and the convention circuit to focus on the other passion in his life, photography.

Nimoy is proud of the notoriety his photographic efforts have gained in the art world. He spoke to the Toronto Sun about an incident in which he and Tom Hanks were approached by a young man who wanted his picture taken with Hanks. When Hanks asked who would take the photo, the man turned to the now former Mr. Spock.

“He said, ‘Mr. Nimoy, you’re a wonderful photographer. Would you take our picture?’”

This weekend Nimoy will be appearing at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo so while he’s in the neighborhood he plans to visit the nearby Alberta town of Vulcan.

Vulcan meanwhile is proud to have their adopted son visit for the first time. They have planned a tour of the local Star Trek museum, a ceremony to canonize his Vulvan V handshake, and the unveiling of a new statue dedicated to Mr. Spock.
