Is It Illegal to Carry Golf Clubs On A Scooter?
In doing research for this article, one could easily be led astray by asking instead “is this a good idea?” However, the task at hand is to answer the question of legality. Is it illegal to carry golf clubs on a scooter? Well, maybe, maybe not.
In fact, some scooters are created for just this purpose. They are built with a rack on the front end of the scooter where the clubs would rest during scooter operation. Some of the fancier models come complete with a large umbrella for the scooter operator’s comfort. These scooters hardly resemble the scooters one would see around on city streets.
The question of legality could arguably coexist with the question of safety. The question of safely securing the clubs during scooter operation could be subjective. If, for example, the golf clubs were being secured with merely the inner thigh strength of the scooter operator that might pose a danger to public safety. If that scooter operator happened to exercise regularly with the thigh master inner thigh-strengthening device, it would be perfectly safe. If, on the other hand, this method was being attempted by someone who becomes winded putting up the kickstand, it could be considered a hazardous way to transport the clubs.
The manner with which the clubs are transported could be subjective. If the clubs are lying vertically across the scooter operator’s lap, and the scooter swerved, becoming unbalanced, the scooter operator could lose his balance, drop the clubs, and possibly be impaled by a driver.
The speed at which the scooter operator is traveling, combined with the manner in which the clubs are being secured could be considered subjective. If a scooter operator, who is creating a greater amount of air displacement, goes speeding down the street at 20 miles per hour, this could potentially cause breezy conditions that could possibly harm pedestrians, or greenery-or both.
Newton’s Law of Physics could foretell disaster if one were to consider a scenario whereby golf clubs are secured at the rear of the scooter, while the scooter operator travels at 20 miles per hour. What if that scooter operator were to need to stop suddenly? Newton’s Law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means that the scooter operator could become a human dartboard because the golf clubs could still potentially be traveling 20 miles per hour, while the scooter operator. Would that be illegal or merely unsafe? The answer is subjective.
Also subjective is the jurisdiction where the golf club transporting is taking place. Is it a revenue poor area that would welcome revenue generated by a ticket for unsafe scooter operation? Does the Sheriff or Police Officer seem cranky? Happy? Hungry? All of these scenarios could act in conjunction with any of the afore mentioned scenarios to either add up to either a lovely day at the golf course-or not.
The best thing to do is to consult law enforcement within the jurisdiction where the golf club transporting will be occurring. Care should also be taken so that one does not approach a hungry, cranky, or otherwise unpleasant law enforcement officer when asking a question about scooters and golf clubs.
