Improve Your Night Time Routine With A Bedside Cabinet
Often neglected areas for improvement in life are those times at the very beginning and very end of the day. Personally, I have to admit to being a fairly reluctant early riser – picture a grizzly bear in a mood at any time before 8am, gradually improving to a mildly annoyed badger for the next hour or so. At 10am I will generally wake up in a relatively passive frame of mind and resemble something like my neutral self. Partly, this is the result of my natural body rhythms at work, but also because I tend to treat my bed as a crash pad, rather than a space to unwind, relax and rest after a long day. A bedside cabinet, I have discovered, can be helpful in rediscovering this restorative period of the day.
From a purely practical sense, I now realise how incredibly useful they are. My usual morning routine used to involve several minutes of searching for the work blackberry and personal mobile (yes I required both to effect a successful morning extraction), which were generally located somewhere about my bed. Now they have a place on the bedside cabinet the drama involved in getting up has been slightly reduced, which is always a good thing.
I am also now in the habit of having a glass of water handy if I am thirsty. Before I had a place to put the glass I generally went without. Again the difference to my life is slight but cumulative, as a slight difference every day can actually make quite a difference over time. I also now have a place for a reading light and, now the option is available, I am reading more before light out. Despite some of the lurid dreams inspired by my choices in literature, I am finding that I am generally sleeping much better.
I think just taking that little but of extra time to relax and unwind before hitting the hay prepares you for some quality rest. This is of course reflected in the morning when I find myself feeling a great deal better rested and energized than I have in a long time. I wouldn’t say I am a completely reformed character – I still very much prefer a lay in to an early start – but I am definitely easier to live with.
