It can be incredibly embarrassing to have the problem of yellow teeth. There’s just something about stained teeth that turns people off like nothing else. This is a problem that can build up over a period of many years, but thankfully you don’t have to wait that long to solve it. With new technologies and treatments there are multiple ways to treat yellow teeth that range from being cheap to wildly costly. It all depends on how white you want your smile to be, but the good news is that some of the inexpensive methods of teeth whitening are effective in their own right. Here are some simple teeth whitening tips to get you started on a brighter smile.

1. Brushing. While brushing alone won’t prevent yellow teeth entirely, you will certainly make the problem worse if you don’t. Make sure to brush at least three times a day after each meal for two minute sessions. Use circular motions and don’t forget about all the sides of your teeth.

2. Flossing. A lot of people hate to floss. It’s your choice, don’t be surprised to see yellowish stains along your gum line of you don’t floss regularly. Flossing gets rid of build up that tooth brushes simply can’t touch.

3. Avoid smoking. Smoking can turn your teeth yellow, and it can even stain your fingers. You already know how bad it is for your overall health, so whiter teeth are just one of the smaller bonuses of quitting smoking.

4. Avoid staining foods. There are foods that are well-known to stain teeth such as wine, coffee, and curry. You should also avoid soft drinks for their high sugar content that break down teeth over time.

5. Visit your dentist. Your dentist is the best person to talk to for teeth whitening devices. They will also have treatments available that you can’t simply get over the counter. Dental bleaching is a popular procedure that works much better when your dentist gives you a fitted mouth piece for application. You should already be visiting your dentist two times a year, so make sure to keep up with the appointments.
