How To Unclog a Drain
I have had my toilet clogged a number of times and each time I have been able to get a solution by simply searching for how to unclog a toilet on google. That is why I was really surprised at my inability to find a nice solution when my drain got clogged recently. My initial thought was that cleaning a drain will be much easier than cleaning up a toilet. After all a toilet, especially the modern ones, is a complex equipment with several components while a drain is as simple an item as it can get. That is why I was surprised at my inability to find a good answer to the simply query of how to unclog a drain.
The very first advice that I will give you is that never wait for the drain to stop completely. Start taking action as soon as you observe any symptom of clogging. Please remember that the job will become exponentially more difficult once the drain is completely choked. Your home will start getting flooded, you will not be able to pour additional water and the list of problems is endless.
Most of the tricks that work when you try to unclog a toilet without a plunger, work for unclogging the drain as well. You may start by making use of a small rod to reach the point of the clogging to try and clean up stuff that is choking the drain. However getting these objects out, proved to be too difficult a task for me.
One simple trick, learned during my attempts at unclogging the toilets, worked like a charm. It was putting baking soda and vinegar into the drain one after the other and then mixing them with the help of a steel rod. These two items create a lot of foam and fume which help in cleaning up any grease or other oily objects that may be obstructing the drain. Finally pour hot water to clean up all the dirt.
As with handling the toilet problems, please remember to handle the task with care. Do not put too much of pressure as that may damage the drain. If the above methods do not work then it is a good idea to call a professional plumber.
