How to Make a Homemade Mold Removal Solution

July 14, 2010 | Author: Admin | Filed under: Uncategorized

If you need to remove some unsightly black bathroom mold why not consider making your own cleaning product. Homemade mold removal solutions are inexpensive. All that is required is a cup of chlorine bleach, a gallon of water, and some method of application. There is really no reason to get any more technical than this: the CDC and the EPA both agree that this solution is both effective and the best way to kill mold spores.

However, homemade mold removal solutions can damage carpet and padding. This solution is not readily recommended for use on carpeted areas, because of the nature of chlorine. Chlorine is bleach, and will remove the color and stain the carpet beyond repair. What is needed, then, is a solution for carpet application to kill molded areas.

In this particular case, a rug steamer combined with salt water is the best of both worlds when it comes to killing mold present in carpet. Simply add one cup of salt to 1 gallon of hot water, and then add the water to the rug steamer reservoir. The hot water acts as a sanitizer and the salt water breaks down the mold and dries it out, making it inert. Salt is a chloride, and it performs the same function as bleach, but without ruining the carpet. Once the problem has been cleaned up, just steam the carpet again with a fresh water reservoir to gather up any remaining salt left behind.

So, between bleach and salt solutions, mold removal in the home is inexpensive and easy. There is no need to invest in a lot of chemicals and cleaners, but having a big bottle of bleach comes in handy. The best way to prevent mold in the house is to make the house unhealthy for mold to grow. This includes changing out air conditioning filters every year, and cleaning the bathrooms frequently.
