Getting rid of acne is not an easy task. Treating acne is a multi billion dollar a year industry and will not be decreasing until there is an actual cure. I had never used an acne product that got rid of my acne until I was prescribed Accutane. I had used many products that were effective in treating my acne until I stopped taking them and then my acne would return. This is not a long term treatment and it is expensive. I have found a drug that cures acne. It is has severe side effects and must be prescribed by a dermatologist. You take it orally for up to six months and you never have acne again.

This miracle acne drug is called Accutane. After three years of seeing the same dermatologist I decided to switch. It appeared that she didn’t know how to get rid of blackheads! My new dermatologist was known for prescribing harsher acne treatments. She took one look at my back and gave me a prescription to Accutane. Accutane is only prescribed to people who have sever acne. If you only have blackheads and whiteheads it will be close to impossible to get a prescription. Accutane is reserved for people who have cystic nodular acne who have tried many prescription acne treatments with no results.

By the time I got my Accutane prescription I had tried over ten prescribed acne treatments. Not one of them was effective in clearing up my skin. When you are prescribed Accutane there are guidelines you have to follow. You must get a blood test every month to make sure your organs are functioning normally. You meet with your dermatologist monthly for examinations. If you are female you have to be using two forms of birth control. Accutane is known to cause birth defects so protecting yourself from pregnancy is crucial.

After taking Accutane for one month the side effects started to kick in. I first noticed my skin was peeling on my lips. My lips peeled, cracked and bled. However, my acne was over 30% better. By the second month my skin was 80% better and my lips were so dry they looked worse then my skin had looked two months prior. By the fourth month I did not have one imperfection on my face or body. It was a miracle! However, my lips were worse then ever. My lips did not recover from the Accutane until I stopped taking it. Two years after taking Accutane my skin is flawless. I get an occasional hormonal or stress related breakout but my skin is now 99% acne free.
