Following Your Heart to a New Profession

If you haven’t noticed, one of the growing trends in popular television shows revolve around food and cooking. Heck, there’s even an entire network devoted to food (the Food Network). And when you see the kind of food that is being prepared on the wide variety of shows presented there and on many other channels, bringing in chefs of all styles from all corners of the country and the globe, you realize that even in this recession, even in these challenging economic times, people still need to eat food that they really enjoy. And to me, this tells me that there is a very strong, vibrant industry for those who choose to study the culinary arts.

The culinary arts cover a wide variety of actual professions. Many people will just think of the head chef, but especially if you watch any of these shows for a little while you realize that there is no possible way any single human can churn out that much food – that much quality, delicious food – night after night without having a small army of qualified help surrounding him or her.

There are sous chefs, line chefs, pastry chefs, prep cooks and probably a good number more that I am leaving out of the list at the moment. So truly, if someone has a real interest in food and wants to make a professional go of it, it is very much a doable dream.

And today you can find cooking schools in all parts of the country and around the world. However, I think if you had to narrow your search down to one particular area to make your selection (somewhat) easier, I would say you would have to consider the culinary arts schools in California as amongst the best choices available to you. When you consider the diversity of populations and the fact that it’s referred to as the bread basket of the world because of all the food that is grown and farmed there, it’s a slam dunk choice.
