Cornhole Bag Care and Maintenance

April 6, 2010 | Author: Admin | Filed under: Home

There are many steps that can be taken to make sure that a cornhole bag lasts a long time.  Likewise, there are ways to keep it clean and in tip-top condition so that it has a like-new appearance for years to come.  Though not terribly expensive, corn toss bags can put a hole in your wallet if you have to constantly buy new sets.  It makes sense to take care of them so that they demonstrate some measure of longevity.

First and foremost, care should be taken that your bags are protected from both weather and wildlife.  It doesn’t take a genius to realize that cornhole bags are usually filled with whole kernel corn, and this sort of material doesn’t handle wet conditions very well.  Leave your bags out in the rain or snow and they will literally turn to mush in no time.  Similarly, the canvas cloth can discolor if left out in the sun for too long.

If the outdoor conditions don’t compromise your bags, then wild animals or pets surely will.  They are especially appealing to deer, who love nothing more than a corn snack.  Though good bags are made of tough canvas cloth and upholstery-grade nylon thread, they are no match for the sharpened teeth of a hungry buck.  The solution to these problems is simple.  When not in use, the bags should be brought indoors and kept in a tote bag or other secure location.

It’s also wise to keep your bags in excellent condition, and this comes down to using effective cleaning techniques.  Throwing them in the clothes washer would be a mistake because it would make quick work of the corn filler.  Bleach cleaners would also be unwise as it they would discolor the duck cloth.  The best method involves only dish liquid and a moist towel.  Simply squirt a small amount of soap onto the towel and scrub the bags.  Any dirt or stains should lift right off.  Do this after every tournament and the bags should last for many years.

As you can see, it’s really not that difficult to keep your cornhole bags in good, clean condition.  It’s really just a matter of having the will to do it.  It will save you money and help you to conserve resources so that any extra dollars can be spent on some good, quality boards to make your cornhole game set complete!
