Copper Repiping A Great Choice For Old Homes

January 29, 2010 | Author: Admin | Filed under: Home

I’ve gone through 3 copper repiping projects in my ten years of home ownership.  Each time its been an extremely successful endeavor and one that I’m glad that I completed.  Primarily, the reason I took the opportunity to fix my plumbing was because I was already doing other remodeling work in my home.  Since we were tearing out the walls down to the skeleton structure of the home, the access to the plumbing was very easy and convenient to tackle.

My favorite project of the 3 was when we were completely redoing our bathroom.  Copper repiping costs had not even entered into my mind when we started the project, but that certainly changed as we moved further along into the tearout.  Once we had stripped the bathroom walls down to the studs we discovered that all the piping that ran from the basement to the shower and faucets was made of galvanized steel.  Because our home was over 50 years old, I just knew we had to make an effort to fix these pipes while we had the chance.  Otherwise if we would have left them, there would be a very good chance that at some point in the future that we would have had to re-tear out the tiling and drywall.  I definitely did not want to have to go through with that project again.

Overall, because we did replace the old steel plumbing with new copper piping, we were very happy to notice a huge increase in water pressure to our bathroom.  Showers were much more enjoyable, we could wash our faces and hands in the sink easily and even the toilet filled faster because of the new plumbing. If you find your self with the opportunity to upgrade your own home’s plumbing system to copper, it may be worth your while to get a quote from a qualified specialist or plumber to see if they can get the job done for you.
