Holidays are great occasions for picnics; the most popular of which is the fourth of July. The focus of these events is always food and the planning and preparation of the food requires considerable thought and a little work.

Find out about the facilities where you plan to go. If fire pits or BBQ grills are allowed on the picnic grounds, you may want to carry foods that can be prepared there. If so, the “cooking out” can be a fun part of the trip. Things like corn on the cob, hamburgers, hot dogs, sloppy joes and even baby back ribs are great when prepared and eaten on the spot. This is where the cold beverages, whether soft drinks or beer, are most enjoyed while standing around the fire, smelling that wonderful aroma coming from the cooking food.

If you don’t plan to cook on location, you’ll need to prepare everything at home and pack it for traveling. Sandwiches are always a staple as well as fruits and raw veggies with dips. My two favorites to carry to any picnic occasion are potato salad and fried chicken (You can tell I’m from the South). The potatoes should be cooked well done so that when you stir in the mayo, the mustard and the pickle relish, you get a mash potato texture with small potato lumps. A deep non stick frying pan is great for frying the chicken; you’ll want to almost cover it with oil and fry at 350 for ten to fifteen minutes to make sure it is completely done throughout.

When transporting your food to the picnic area, make sure to pack it in coolers for safety sake and make the cooking and eating of the food your first activity so it doesn’t sit around in the heat too long. To avoid food poisoning, never allow foods to sit out in the sun for any period of time and be aware that mayonnaise and raw meat products are especially vulnerable.

Last, but not least, take along a good first aid kit, a bottle of sun tan lotion, insect repellent and lip balm. With a little planning, your holiday picnic can be a fun filled, memorable occasion. Happy picnicking!

Oil Spill Affecting Florida Beach Vacations?

Since April the coverage of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill has been a constant backdrop to an otherwise great spring and summer travel season. As of early July oil had washed up on the beaches and marshlands of Mississippi, Louisana, Texas, and Florida. Of the affected states, Florida has caught the attention of the population because of its standing as a top tourist spot. But just which Florida beaches are affected by the spill, and which ones are likely to be affected in the future?

Currently, only a small piece of Florida coastline is affected by oil in the water, or tar balls or tar patties. As of early July 2010, that area is in the toe of Florida’s boot, between Fort Walton and Pensacola. Again, this is an incredibly small portion of the coast-less than 10%.

Because of the way the ocean waters circulate in the Gulf of Mexico, the spill is unlikely to be felt along the west coast of Florida’s Penninsula. That means popular tourist destinations like Sanibel Island, Captiva Island, Fort Myers Beach and Naples Fl will be unaffected. However, the effects may be felt all the way down south in the Florida Keys, and even on the East Side of Florida near Miami and Fort Lauderdale. If you are planning a vacation in these areas this summer, its best to check out the Visit Florida website and call the hotel or resort that you’ll be staying at.

The X factor for Florida is, as always, hurricanes. Currently, experts can’t seem to agree on the likely outcome of a hurricane in the Gulf. There is no doubt that a powerful hurricane could disrupt and delay the drilling of the relief wells. but if the hurricane will help by breaking up the oil slicks, or make the situation worse by blowing the oil into the land, nobody seems to know.

So whats a vacationing Family to do? Stick to Southwest Florida-I hear there are some great deals on Naples FL Homes anyhow.

From a cyclists perspective Argentina is not even comparable to Holland. Cyclists possibly come below pigeons on the hierarchy of right of way on the roads. But with a few simple tips it is possible to truly enjoy the magnificent city of Buenos Aires traveling by bike.

Wear a Helmet

Although not required by Argentine law you should still wear a helmet. Helmets can be found at most sports shops, all corner bike repair shops and some bike rental agencies. Make sure the helmet fits correctly and is safety approved.

Give the local Bus Right of Way

A simple way to stay a little safer is to stay far from the local buses which drop off and pick up passengers on the right hand side of many streets. Buses move fast and stop suddenly giving very little room for a cruising cyclist.

Stay away from the Main Streets

Drivers in Buenos Aires dont like sharing their space. Main roads are for cars, buses and trucks, not a cyclist. Even the local bike pizza delivery boy uses the side streets to pedal around. You may get a little lost and bump over some cobblestones but you may also discover some hidden gems of the city.

Many of the backstreets in Buenos Aires are one way so respect the direction of the traffic. But remember to look both ways when you come to intersections, just in case.

Bike Paths

The city government of Buenos Aires is starting to construct a series of bike paths that link sections of the city. These well marked and separated bike lanes are the safest way to cruise around town. You can travel around the tourist areas of Palermo, Puerto Madero and parts of La Boca. Although not extensive the current bike planes are popular and a great start for the city’s plans to make cycling a more acceptable mode of transport.

Join a Bike Tour of Buenos Aires

If taking to the streets solo makes you a little concerned, leave the planning, orientating and leading to an expert. Join a bike tour of Buenos Aires and learn about the history of the country at the same time. Bike tours can be the best way to see another side of the city. Join locals in the plazas, explore the backstreets become part of the life of Buenos Aires.

Discover luxury villa holidays and picture anywhere in the world you would like to go. Make it beautiful and exotic. There you will find a luxury villa. Picture the beaches sandy and warm swirling with colorful umbrellas. See yourself enjoying the sun as you sail a gorgeous harbor. Play golf and get an amazing score. Perhaps you are finding yourself on the shores of beautiful Croatia with its lovely villas and unforgettable coast line.

Take a trip to Nice or ski the French Alps. Rent a chalet in Switzerland or a villa in Cozumel to experience wonderful vacations in beautiful places. Travel to the Galapagos or try Palm Beach. Wherever there is true beauty you will be sure to find a lovely villa. Castles are even sometimes open to the public, as accommodation, for a part of the year; they can make wonderful places to stay. They are rented out and generally come with maid service. Of course these extras must be paid for but the scenery and rich history is worth every penny.

Villa rentals can sleep 6 to 12 people and sometimes more so doing the rental expense alone is not really necessary. Whether it is mountain slopes, white beaches or desert sands a villa is usually available somewhere. On a budget take advantage of the off season; the crowds will not be there but you will become familiar with the area and enjoy many of the same amenities. Instead of looking for a hotel on your next vacation live a little and look for a gorgeous, private villa.

The view from one of these exquisite looking private villas in the world will capture your imagination. The vibrant colors of the sea and sky from these beautiful places on the earth will wake you to a world you have only dreamed of.

Traveling can be tough on the body due to long trips in cramped spaces. Aches and pains develop in numerous places, but using a memory foam travel pillow can provide the body with the support it needs. When a body is supported and kept in proper alignment it alleviates strain and lessens aches and pains. Inflatable travel pillows do provide support but not the comfort that a foam pillow can. The pillow moulds to you body shape for maximum support. Look for the term memory foam on the pillow label. Do not settle for anything else as nothing works as well as the memory foam pillows.

A memory foam neck pillow provides soft support to the head and neck areas. When used, this pillow holds the head and neck in the proper body alignment. When the head is maintained in the correct alignment there is no strain on joints or muscles which results in a pain free trip. As soon as you rest your head back on the neck pillow you are going to know this trip will be different. Reading suddenly becomes comfortable again. Whether you are traveling by plane, train or automobile do not travel without the memory foam neck pillow. There are so many uses for one that you won’t know how you did without one this long.

Having the memory foam body pillow along on the trip can be just as beneficial. These are large pillows that are perfect for side sleepers. When you stay at motels or the homes of families and friends you begin to miss your own bed. Being in a different environment makes sleeping difficult. So bring along a familiar pillow that is plush and full of support. The familiar comfort will make you think of home while your body enjoys the softness and support. The memory foam body pillow is one of those things that you just do not leave home without.

The memory foam contour pillow can double as a regular pillow at night. It will provide support to your lower back when riding and provide the perfect support to neck and shoulder when lying down to sleep. The contour pillow is a great choice for home and travel. Think about getting stuck in an airport overnight. It would be great to be able to pull one of these pillows out of your bag. The next morning you would be very happy to have had that pillow. Also, on overnight flights or train rides the benefits of having a supportive plush pillow just cannot be overstated.

In this article we cover the subject of entertainment and nightlife in the tourist resort of Benidorm, which is located in the Costa Blanca area of Spain. To get to Benidorm most people fly into the international airport at Alicante which is only around an hours drive away. Specifically in this article we talk about one of the most famous entertainment acts in Benidorm which is known as Sticky Vicky.

Benidorm is a very developed tourist resort with apartments and skyscrapers dominating the skyline. Most of these buildings are hotels and apartments catering to the huge amount of visitors who come not only in the summer but throughout the year. The weather in Benidorm in the winter is very mild so people come here for the winter sun and to escape the very harsh winters in Northern Europe.

Because of the vast amount of competing hotels, apartments, restaurants and bars generally prices are very competitive and cheap. Many people visit Benidorm for the amazing variety of evening entertainment. Many of the acts and performers put on shows free of charge. This is because there is a huge amount of bars and nightclubs competing for business in the massive tourist resort of Benidorm. Although Benidorm is a beach resort you will find many people specifically visit purely because of the Benidorm nightlife which is legendary.

The shows can actually be of quite a high quality although many of them are performing cover versions of popular songs. Clearly people would not generally pay for this but the performances in some cases are outstanding. Many of the popular shows are the tribute acts for Meat Loaf, Queen, Take That, Michael Jackson, Robbie Williams, ABBA and West Life.

Sticky Vicky is a show performed by a lady known as the Vicky Leyton, she is actually Spanish but over the years tourists have taken to naming her show as Sticky Vicky which she now performs under. When you are in Benidorm it can be quite confusing because there are a number of imposter’s also claiming to be Sticky Vicky. Make sure you are watching the genuine act which obviously is the best one. All the shows are free of charge, you just need to pay fewer drinks in whatever club you are watching the act. These venues to vary from night to night but may include Jokers or Chaplins bar.

While you are in Benidorm make sure you get down to the promenade and beachfront where there are many great rock bars or so with great entertainment including many good live bands. The Heartbreak bar is probably the best one with regular entertainment in summer and winter.

The Sticky Vicky show is basically a magic act with a difference. It is certainly for open-minded adults and definitely not one for taking the children to. It really is an outrageous magical show and an essential attraction for visitors to Benidorm.

While you are in Benidorm be sure also to visit the fantastic beach of Playa Levante which is the main beach with many activities available such as waterskiing and parasailing. Certainly Benidorm is a tourist resort that has it all. Just be aware that when you visit the resort it is a busy and noisy, happening place with lots to see and do, certainly not the place for a quiet location or holiday!

Fraser Island is known as the world’s largest sand island and is one of the major attractions for tourism in Queensland, Australia. If you’re looking for things to do while in Fraser Island in the form of some Australia travel advice, Fraser Island tours are definitely a great way to explore this fantastic sand oasis.

Fraser Island is a large part of Australia’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, and it is now protected under the World Heritage Listing for all visitors to enjoy. You can take day or 2-6 day tours in 4WD tour vehicles to experience all this island has to offer. An expert guide will take you to all the major sites including Lake McKenzie and Indian Head. If you are taking a multiple day tour, you can choose between one with camping accommodations or hostel/lodge accommodations.

The guided tours will let you experience Fraser Island’s over 40 rare freshwater lakes, towering rainforests growing in sand, swampy wetlands, heathlands bright with wildflower sand and sweeping beaches lined with Pandanus Palms. The abundance of wildlife found on Fraser Island includes wallabies, dingoes, flying foxes, dugongs, dolphins, sharks, turtles, and humpback whales. The tours are interactive as you can take part in the scenic backdrop by swimming in the lakes, walking through the rainforests, and exploring the island.

Hervey Bay is known for being Whale Watching capital of the world, and you will have the chance to take whale watching tours to see these magnificent creatures as they visit the bay between August and October on their way to the Antarctic. More than 1500 humpback whales visit Hervey Bay each year and they are easily spotted in the pristine, calm and safe waters of Fraser Island.

There are many different tour groups to choose from when booking your Fraser Island tour. They all offer similar packages, so it is about finding a tour company that you feel comfortable booking with.

Nobody likes to be stressed, especially when they are traveling. Travel stress can take the enjoyment out of a holiday, or prevent you from well-needed sleep during a business trip. It can make worse the normal stresses of traveling far distances to see family in trips that do not happen very often, and if you are traveling with several legs to your flight or other mode of transport, you will no doubt want to keep on schedule or you could potentially end up missing all your subsequent flights etc.

One of the things that can help you so much to reduce your travel stress is to get yourself a nice and simple travel clock. It will probably want to be an alarm clock, so that you can set it yourself and know how it works. There is nothing worse than trying to work out the hotel room’s alarm clock at 3am when you finally check in with the acute awareness that you are only going to get five hours sleep before you have to eat on the run and then be on the next train. It’s not pleasant to have to handle clocks which may have sticky buttons or not seem to work, and then have nobody around who seems to be able to fix your problem, which is not uncommon if you are checking in and out during the wee hours.

A travel clock of your own will solve this problem, not to mention the great benefit that you can choose exactly the kind of clock that you want. No reason to limit yourself to really boring ones, you can get a pretty one if you like, or a stylish one, or simply a lightweight travel clock that will do the job without any bells or whistles. Some people prefer a radio alarm clock so that’s the kind that they will buy, others prefer one that comes with a lamp or light. When you buy a travel clock of your own, of course, it’s up to you, it’s your choice.

School’s out and it’s time for the annual family vacation. Lots of people are rethinking their decision to spend a week or so at their favorite beach this summer. The explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig has not only created tragedy and chaos in the Gulf but has extended to most of the beaches in the south. Predictions by meteorologists seem to change daily as to where the oil slicks will end up and when they will get there.

So, where can you go that the entire family can all actually have a good time? It might be time to take another look at Disney World in Orlando. Having your picture taken with Goofy and braving the Pirates of the Caribbean for the twenty-ninth time might not be your idea of fun, but what about those four championship golf courses? Three of them are part of the PGA tour and the fourth is a par-36 practice course.

Normally, when you finally manage to get permission to take off on a golf vacation, don’t you end up paying for it, over and over, for the rest of the year? Not this time! This time you get to spend your days on gorgeously landscaped golf courses while the rest of the family is having the time of their lives. Have them join you one day on the nine-hole Oak Trail course which is designed for younger, less experienced players and you may even come out of this a hero.

You will be able to choose between Disney’s Palm and Magnolia courses, which are both near the Polynesian Resort, the Osprey Ridge courses, at the Bonnet Creek Golf Club and the Lake Buena Vista course which is mid-way between Downtown Disney and the Saratoga Spring Resort. The Disney courses belong to the Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary Golf Program and are consistently rated at the top of Golf, Golf Digest and Conde Nast Traveler lists of best golf resorts in the U.S.

Disney may not be what comes to mind when you start dreaming of the perfect golf vacation, but maybe it should. Next winter when you’re looking at the Mickey Mouse golf tees and Tinkerbell necktie that they couldn’t wait to give you on the way home, you just might find yourself looking forward to next time.

If you’re anything like many people, you may often find yourself in a frustrating circumstance regarding your personal belongings when you leave home. One of the most frequent ones would be leaving something important at home, in the office, or just about anywhere else. And most of the time, the thing that we leave is something that is important for our trip. These items could be cellular phone, laptop or iPod chargers; if not the items themselves, a DVD that has the presentation for a business meeting, your mom’s engagement ring; which you were going to propose with after going half way across the country to see your girlfriend, or a hard to find audio CD that you promised to get for your cousin.

When caught in a situation like this, there is no other way than to ask someone to ship it to you. Shipping with a box, of course, is going to cost you. But to save on that cost, you should try using bubble mailers. It looks like a regular envelope, but it really isn’t, its inner wall is lined with bubble plastic that keeps your valuable secure by lessening impact or pressure against it.

These special envelopes are made of tear proof material that promises not to rip open. It also includes a self seal so you no longer have to tape it closed. Shipping labels will have no problem adhering to the bubble mailer because of its material, making sure that anything you would need to have it mailed can be posted on it. You also don’t have to worry about your item not being able to fit in these envelopes because they come in different sizes. From CDs to books, you can find the right size of bubble mailer to fit your stuff. And they are not pricey, too, especially if you get them on line. They usually go for a buck a piece, depending on the size, of course.

So the next time you leave something behind, always remember that aside from boxes, there are bubble mailers that can do the job of getting your stuff to you just as well–for less!
