Wicker patio furniture requires a lot of attention if you expect it to last a long time. There are many different types of wicker; some of them will require more care than others. This article is going to cover some of the basics of caring for and cleaning different types of outdoor wicker furniture.  The two main types of wicker are synthetic and traditional.

Traditional wicker is made from materials from palms. This type of wicker will be vulnerable to the elements is recommend to keep out of direct sunlight or frequent rain. Make sure to keep dust and dirt build up off the wicker, this will prevent erosion of your furniture. To clean it, just use a damp cloth possibly with a mild cleaning agent. Try not to use harsh chemicals on traditional wicker because it can cause damage. Be sure not to sit in the wicker furniture if it is wet because it can stretch the fibers causing gaps in the weaving. If the wicker is exposed to the elements for too long, permanent damage can occur to one or more of the strands. It’s possible to repair this if it happens but it’s best to try to avoid this scenario. If you think the repair is out of your ability to fix, consult a furniture repair shop. They should be able to handle anything that you can bring to them.

Synthetic wicker is much more durable. There are many benefits to choosing a synthetic over traditional. Synthetic blends are designed to be able to with stand the elements day after day. Quality furniture set can last you years even out in harsh conditions. Cleaning of this type of wicker is also much easier. If the set is extremely dirt, a power washer could be used to blast the dirt away. A hose and some soap will do the trick as well. Even though this is designed to withstand the elements there is no reason you can’t bring it out of the rain or direct sunlight, with a little work these furniture sets can last a life time.
