Are Oversized King Bedding Sets Becoming The Norm?

July 2, 2010 | Author: Admin | Filed under: Uncategorized

Anyone who is honest with themselves can see that America (and probably the whole western world) is becoming fatter. As we put more calories made up of junk food rather than fresh food into our systems and do less and less exercise we become fatter and fatter.

As we become larger we need bigger beds and with bigger beds comes the need for bigger bedding. A queen size bed in the USA is considered small and yet in the UK it is a standard size for any married couple.

In the same way that clothes companies are altering the size charts so we don’t see that we are all becoming more and more obese (if I am still a size 14 it must be ok), bedding companies are promoting oversized king bedding as the new normal.

There is no question that having space to actually breath when you are asleep without your spouse snoring in your face is nice. Not everyone can afford to buy, or has the room for, an oversized king in their bedroom so if you are still sleeping in a queen sized bed don’t feel like you are the only person without a bed big enough to fit in the local soccer team.

If you are looking at purchasing an oversized king then you definitely need to take the cost of oversized king bedding into account. They use more material and the companies are not shy about charging you for that material.

The best time to buy bedding is in the opposite season or at the end of the season it is designed for. Right at the end of the summer, just as stores are swapping over to their winter merchandise, you can often get 2 for 1 deals on the last of the lightweight bedspreads. The same would apply during the last few weeks of spring, everyone is thinking about summer, no one wants to buy a big heavy duvet cover so it is the perfect time to get a deal.
