Am I a Viable Lasik Candidate?

January 24, 2010 | Author: Admin | Filed under: Health and Fitness

Are you suffering from nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism?  If you do, there may be a solution to your eye problems.  This simple solution is Lasik eye surgery.  If you are interested in learning more about this innovative surgery, keep reading below.

First, it is important to mention that Lasik is only good for correcting refractive eye problems.  A refractive eye problem occurs when the pupil and the cornea is unable to correctly focus light on the retina.  If you have a vision problem that is not refractive in nature, Lasik may not be able to help you.

Additionally, there are several other criteria which could preclude you from getting this eye surgery.  These conditions include being pregnant, less than 18 years old, or diabetic.  Furthermore, certain medications and diseases can prevent Lasik from being viable for your situation.

Now that you have an idea of whether or not you may be a Lasik candidate, let’s examine another aspect of this surgery.

Very fortunately, this procedure is relatively painless and quick.  Since the eye surgeon will administer anesthetic eye drops, the patient does not feel any pain during the surgery.  Additionally, the eye surgeon will only use the laser on your eyes for a few seconds.  In fact, a very skilled eye surgeon can operate on both of your eyes in less than twenty minutes.

As a last note, in addition to the anesthetic eye drops, many eye surgeons prescribe the medicine Valium to relieve the patient’s anxiety about the surgery.   It is very common for a person to feel anxious about this surgery.

As you can see, there are certain criteria you must meet in order to be a viable Lasik eye surgery candidate.    If you feel that you meet these criteria, we recommend you visit the Lasic Dallas Guide for further information.
