Acne Laser Surgery

Acne is a prevalent skin problem among teenagers. This is caused by over secretion of sebum by the sebaceous gland. This overabundance of sebum clogs the skin pores creates favorable conditions for bacterial growth, which leads to the development of acne and pimples.

Due to its accuracy and high success rate, laser surgery has emerged as a best treatment for acne removal. In this surgery laser beam is applied on the affected area. The beam kills the bacteria that are present in the pore and repairs the damaged skin tissues. This in turn eliminates both acne and the acne scars.

Laser treatment for acne is a totally painless and outpatient procedure. It means that patient is not required to stay at the hospital, overnight after the procedure. Before this treatment, anesthetic creams are applied to numb the affected areas. Then the laser is applied the affected areas. This laser emits heat below the skin’s surface that helps shrinking the sebaceous glands. Acne generates from the overproduction of sebum or oil so when sebaceous glands get shrank, it lessen the excessive oil in skin pores.

There are two types of acne laser surgery treatments:

• In the first type of surgery, a single beam of light is applied on the skin.  It kills the bacteria responsible for acne and helps shrinking the sebaceous gland. It results in decreasing the frequency of acne outbreaks.

• The second kind of laser treatment is known as laser skin resurfacing. It is a treatment for the scars caused by acne. In this surgery, very thin upper layer of skin is burned. When the area heals, the result of the surgery is new and better skin

Thus, acne laser treatment can provide two great benefits. It improves skin color and texture, and helps keeping acne free skin from in the future.
